Since bursting back unto the Ghanaian music scene with Shatta City, singer and producer Shatta Wale has christened himself (among other things) “African Dancehall King”. Of course this is a title he has had to wrestle from bitter rival Samini of High Grade Family.

Last Friday, he was in London for his Shatta Live in London Concert as part of his Europe tour. Speaking to the BBC world Service, which addressed him as “Africa’s Dancehall King”, he reminisced going to London for the very first time as a teenager and learning to speak Jamaican patois while living with his cousins there.

He also regretted not being able to do things he used to do before encountering stardom, like riding bicycles, eating from a local chop bar, or joining public transport. Still, he wouldn’t trade it for anything else, he insisted.

Shatta Wale is currently also promoting his 2016 album After the Storm.
